The dispensary was established in September 1951 with staff of three doctors.
In 1954 it had been moved to a separate building, consisting of three rooms and had served 4000 persons from the former districts of Varna and Tolbuhin.
Dr Marko Antonov Markov is a famous specialist in the field of gynaecological oncology. Since 1961 he is a Head physician of the Oncological dispensary - Varna. He is an author of more than 60 scientific articles, 15 out of them published in magazines abroad. He is a member of the Union of the Scientists in Bulgaria and the first Bulgarian member of the International Academy of Cytology with a central seat in Canada.
In 1969 the dispensary was moved to a new building, where four consulting rooms hwere opened: surgical, internal, gynaecological è dermic. In addition registration, clinical and cytological labs and “colouring room” were opened. The staff grew up to 38 persons.
Since 1985 the polyclinic base has been settled down into a bigger building.

The new history of the dispensary began as from 20.03.2003.
Proposed then by the Mayer of the Municipality of Varna and of the decision of the Municipal Council of Varna “MBDPLR “Sv. Ivan Rilski” Asparuhovo- Varna“ SOLC has been moved into “IDODH Dr Marko Antonov Markov” SOLC.
In 2003 with the help of the Mayer of the Municipality of Varna- Mr Kiril Iordanov was built a special building of the oncological disease- base ¹2.
Plans and perspectives for development: the goal of the hospital’s administration and of the entire staff of the clinical institution is to transform the oncological dispensary into a leading center for Southern Eastern Bulgaria.
